 Mayor's Report

The economy continues to be the most discussed issue of the day and rightfully so. There is a great deal of uncertainty that impacts all of us.

Although there are apparent challenges facing our employers, we must embrace the opportunities that are also being announced by our upper orders of government.  For Centre Wellington we have a strong voice of representation working on our behalf.

The Township works tirelessly to seek out every available opportunity to address infrastructure deficiencies.  We know that the property tax is regressive and expected to handle too many services.  Keeping any increases to a minimum will always be our goal recognizing the health and safety of our Community must be maintained. Our corporate strategic plan has focused our attention on this quest and we have been relatively successful in establishing great partnerships to assist us in achieving this goal.

We are investing in jobs and many of our projects will certainly keep people working. Take a look at the employment opportunities.

Three Township bridge projects will commence this year and one County bridge in West Garafraxa will be completed in partnership with the Province and Federal orders.

The reconstruction of Metcalfe Street will commence this spring in partnership with the County.

Fergus will have an amazing Affordable Housing project completed and in partnership we will create a trail link and park area around this project.

Wellington Place will see the archival addition begin construction.

The Elora Library renovation will be completed this spring.

Paving will continue as funds permit.

The Grand River Agricultural Society and the Lions Club are in partnership with the Township to reconstruct Bisell Park.

The Beatty Corner project is in progress and hoping for a completion in 2009.

We are moving ahead and we are shovel ready to receive the promised flow of money into our municipality.
