  • On July 8, the federal Minister of Finance presented an economic and fiscal snapshot following Canada's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and delaying the 2020 federal budget in March.
  • The federal deficit is projected to hit $343.2 billion this fiscal year, comparable to spending during the Second World War. The federal debt will exceed $1.2 trillion by the end of the fiscal year.
  • Since the start of the pandemic, the federal government has spent more than $231 billion on aid packages and health and safety measures for Canadians.
