A Message from Sally Litchfield, General Manager:

salxmasHello everyone!

I'm coming to you today live from what feels like Christmas Headquarters in our boardroom (and if you missed the earlier announcement, officially as the General Manager of CWCC)! We are getting into the Christmas spirit, as odd as it feels this year, and prepping for some festive initiatives!

Starting today, we have some Engagement Committee Elves out and about getting our #CWCCCandyCaneChain started! If you find yourself on the receiving end of one of our bags of candy canes, take one and pass it on... but not before snapping a quick selfie of course!

Next up on the advent calendar is our Virtual Holiday Cheer event, sponsored by The GrandWay, on December 8 from 4pm to 5pm. We are really excited to share that our CWCC team will be coming to you virtually, live, and from a few different rooms at The GrandWay Events Centre. Curious about what they've been building over there? Join us next week for a sneak peek! You can pre-order cookie decorating and/or gingerbread house kits by emailing us. Have some fun decorating with your bubble and show off on the call! There WILL be prizes (including a $50 gift basket from Edible Promotions that looks so good it may not make it through the week!) and lots of Christmas cheer!

And to close out the year, we are pairing a Shred It Event with a Food Drive! More details to come on that, but start sorting your paperwork ready for shredding on December 15.

We do continue to monitor the COVID19 legislation, requirements, and restrictions as they relate to the local business community. I did want to highlight that in order for organizations to be open, an Infectious Disease Program and Safety Plan with protocols must be in place, as well as workplace screening. If you need assistance with these or any other items, we are here and able to direct you to resources and information.

You can read more below in the Community Supports section, but I wanted to mention here that new grant funding has been announced through Wellington-Waterloo Community Futures (WWCF). WWCF has allotted $250,000 in grant funding to focus on providing technical and professional training/consulting services to help local small businesses recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Please don't hesitate to connect with us if there is anything we at CWCC can do to support you and/or your business!

Analysis from Canadian Chamber of Commerce on Canada's Fall Economic Statement
Earlier this week, the government delivered its Fall Economic Statement (FES), offering the clearest picture of federal finances and economic assumptions in over a year. The government is preparing to spend up to $100 billion to kick-start the post-pandemic economy while projecting a record-high deficit of close to $382 billion for the 2020 fiscal year. While the emergency supports announced in the FES will help many Canadians and businesses through the coming winter, the government’s plans to manage the pandemic and restore economic growth remain unclear. The hope is that we see these detailed plans in a budget early in 2021. Read the full analysis from the Canadian Chamber of Commerce here.

Workplace Screening

Are you compliant with workplace screening regulations?

On Sept. 25, pre-entry COVID screening of all workers and “essential visitors” became mandatory for all businesses in Ontario — effective immediately — regardless of sector. The new requirement comes through an amendment to Ontario Regulation 364/20, the “Rules for Areas in Stage 3”, which is a regulation under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020.

The screening recommendations are set forth in the COVID-19 Screening Tool for Workplaces (Businesses and Organizations). This document does not provide guidance on how it should be implemented. Employers will have to decide for themselves how best to implement the Screening Tool in their workplace.

The Get Ready Daily Screening Tool™ is one option that has been presented to Ontario Chambers of Commerce. CWCC members receive a discount on this tool. Please email us for more information!
